High raw materials and energy costs continue to hurt profitability as producers struggle to pass costs to customers. EU regulations point towards a wider ban on single-use products including in restaurants and for fruits and vegetable packaging, bringing eco-friendly solutions to the forefront. Greek packaging companies are investing heavily to increase their sustainable product offering and improve ESG metrics, supported by government incentives. Valuations have somewhat stabilised in the last quarter with a slight drop on the plastics side, while market activity remained muted. We expect this trend to continue well in 2023, with sell-side processes anticipated to yield premiums as scarcity of good asset auctions may drive competition.
